SAND Airdrop for Sandbox Land Owners

SAND Airdrop for Sandbox Land Owners

Following on from its recent addition of SAND participation on the Polygon network, The Sandbox announced an upcoming airdrop of SAND on Polygon to all landowners. The amount of SAND received depends on how much land is owned, what sale the land is from, and how long it has been in the same wallet.

A while back, The Sandbox announced its intention to migrate most, if not all, of its ecosystem to the Polygon network due to transaction fees on the Ethereum network. They started by enabling staking rewards for Sandbox-MATIC holders and reducing the rewards earned on ETH staking. Now they're following it up with a simple airdrop to give everyone who has at least one plot of land some free SAND in Polygon. The snapshot was taken on December 20, 2021, so don't miss out on buying a plot now and wait for an airdrop!

SAND Airdrop for Sandbox Land Owners

Each land is worth one point. If the land was from one of the three presales, you receive additional points (up to 3). The older the plot, the more valuable it is. If you actually bought a plot during one of those presales, AND have held onto it ever since, that land receives a 'Diamond Hand' bonus and your points are doubled! Interestingly, the size of the earth seems to make no difference. A single parcel is as valuable as a farm.

Based on each owner's total score for all of their land, they will receive a SAND airdrop on the Polygon network. No action is required on your part. Very sweet! Especially since SAND is around $5 USD each right now!

The polygon network

One of the great things about the Polygon network is that it uses the same address as your ETH wallet. So all you have to do is put the network information into Metamask, switch, and access your SAND!

To connect to Polygon with Metamask, click the network selection dropdown menu and select Add Network. Then enter the following details:

  • Network name: Polygon Mainnet
  • New RPC URL:
  • Chain ID: 137
  • Currency symbol: MATIC
  • Block Scanner:

Once you're set up, you can switch between ETH and Polygon whenever you want. Anyone thinking of moving funds to Polygon, perhaps to participate in liquidity mining, expect to pay an initial transfer fee. But once you're at Polygon, the rates are extremely reasonable.

What do you think will be the next steps that Sandbox will take in this migration? Land bridges? Sandbox NFT in Polygon? It would certainly be nice to have the opportunity to acquire NFT Sandbox without paying more than $30 extra on top of the NFT price! Some of the migration could be quite complex, so it will be interesting to see what solutions they decide on. Regardless of what they pick, this move is great for both The Sandbox and the Polygon network.

What is The Sandbox?

Sandbox is one of the blockchain-powered virtual worlds currently under development. Sandbox consists of customizable terrains with voxel-based entities. Visually, it will remind many gamers of Minecraft, as both games have a Lego-inspired look. However, players can buy virtual land and implement any form of monetization. These virtual lands can become mini-games, adventures, virtual stores, extensions of real web stores, a space for social gatherings, etc.

Sandbox provides free tools for developers, gamers, and content creators. Creators can use VoxEdit to create voxel-based objects for use in the game. And with Game Maker users can create all kinds of interactive experiences! Sandbox will also create a metagame experience. Players can, for example, do daily or weekly quests for their guild. This will give players SAND, which they can sell or use to buy in-game items or virtual lands.
