The former Los Angeles Gladiator is the first of several anticipated player announcements to be released this week.

The London Spitfire list is finally getting some backing. After months of relative silence, the Overwatch League team announced today that flexible support Riku “Ripa” Toivanen will join the 2021 roster. It is the first of multiple anticipated promotions from Spitfire's Overwatch Contenders academy team, British Hurricane.

For the past year, Ripa has been a key member of the British Hurricane, helping the team stay at the top of the leaderboards at Contenders Europe. Ripa previously played for the Los Angeles Gladiators during the 2019 Overwatch League season but was on the bench most of the time on the team.

During the 2020 offseason, London management decided a full rebuild was necessary for the struggling team. After removing most of the above list and adding Ysabel "Noukky" Müeller as general manager, the team confirmed that the 2021 season is headed in an entirely western direction.

Noukky and the Spitfire staff largely hinted at the multi-player promotions of the British Hurricane, considering the team's wildly successful run on Overwatch Contenders. The British hurricane did not lose a season or tournament in the European region for over a year, but a surprise from the Obey Alliance toppled them in November 2020.

Last month, the London Spitfire announced its first entry into the 2021 list in the form of Jeffrey "blasé" Tsang. More Spitfire player announcements are expected throughout this week.

Update January 4 at 3:15 pm CT: The London Spitfire has also sacked main support Kim "Fuze" Tae-hoon from their squad.
